About Paper & Card
Paper & Card
The most popular colours are usually white and cream but there are a vast array of papers and cards in all sorts of colours and weights
we hope the information below will help you with your card making.
Card Blanks
A card blank is a card of a particular size that has been creased mechanically.
You can score your own with a creasing bone but sometimes it lacks that professional look
Aperture Cards
Aperture cards have a shape cut out of the card blank ideally for displaying small embellishments or maybe a photo. The blanks can come with all different sizes and shapes of aperture including squares and rectangle, circles and ovals and even shapes like Christmas trees and hearts and popular one for us is the Mum aperture if you have a shape that you would like ask and if we think it will sell we may produce
Weight
The weight of a card is very important, you need to know the gsm, grams per square meter, this is the most common measure of the thickness although the thickness is measured in microns.
The best gsm for greeting cards can differ but a small card, A6 you we suggest that can use minimum, 260 gsm our lowest gms is 270.
For a 7x5 card we suggest the minimum of 270gms
For an 8x6 card we suggest 290gms
Different colour pigments can have an effect on the card, our 300 gms luxury felt card in white feels thicker than the luxury cream card but really the best way to find the best card for a design is the stand up test if the card when fully finished falls over or bends under the weight then the card you are using is to light
After a while you can get the feel of different cards by using the snap test, run your thumb off the corner if the corner gives a healthy snap back it is usually good enough for greeting cards and will produce a professional result.
